The workers’ song, the voice of the community

Content: In this lecture, we use the rich treasure trove of workers’ songs as a prism to tell the history of the labor movement. You’ll hear the story of the importance of community singing and especially AOF’s Workers’ Songbook for the movement. If you feel like it, we will sing some of the most important songs.

Content: This lecture takes you back to the early beginnings of the labor movement in the 1870s. We follow in the footsteps of the workers and their struggle for rights and citizenship. From the first tentative attempts to form an organization, through the Battle of Fælleden to the Great Conflict of 1899, which led to the settlement we call the Danish model.

Content: For the labor movement, Vestre Cemetery is a very special place with a strong symbolism. Social Democratic prime ministers, trade union leaders, other politicians and artists associated with the labor movement are buried here, in the area commonly known as “The Red Sea”.
In this walk around the cemetery we pass Louis and Sylvia Pio, Stauning, Edith Olsen, Anker and Ritt.
