Theme about the social democratic prime ministers

For more than a century, social democratic prime ministers have left their mark on Denmark – politically, socially and culturally. The Workers’ Museum houses a unique collection of archives that provide an in-depth insight into the life and work of these prominent leaders.

The archives are wide-ranging and contain both personal and political documents – from diaries and records to minutes, letters and internal memos. In addition, an extensive selection of photographs, posters and literature combine to create a vivid picture of the people who have led the party and the country. The material illuminates not only the big decisions and political visions, but also the more human aspects of the prime ministers’ lives – their thoughts, doubts, values and relationships.

The collection provides an opportunity to understand the development of Danish welfare policy, the role of the labor movement and the ideological currents that have shaped Denmark throughout the 20th and 21st centuries. It tells the story of leadership, social change and the responsibility that comes with leading a nation.
