Theme on Security Policy

Throughout history, the question of war and peace has had a profound impact on workers’ lives and political struggles. The labor movement emerged in a time of unrest, revolutions and wars – and faced the dilemma between international solidarity and national loyalty. What should workers do when the great powers went to war and when the price of peace was paid by the many, not the few?

The theme “Security politics – war and peace” explores the role of workers in major international conflicts: from resistance to militarization and nuclear armament to the fight for disarmament, peace and democracy.

What does security mean today? And who creates it – the soldiers, the politicians or the people themselves?
